How many grams of horse blanket do I need?
Share
As soon as it gets colder, it starts again for many pony & horse owners: Blanket stress! Or not?
Which horse blanket is suitable for my miniature horse, Shetland pony, small pony or horse? Is this blanket too thin or too thick for my pony? How many grams is this blanket? We get these questions regularly.
Weight vs Temperature indications of Bucas blankets
Bucas blankets offer a great solution to (largely) eliminate all blanket stress, namely: Temperature indications!
The Bucas blankets each have their own temperature range in which the blanket is best used. This way you can easily determine which blanket fits your miniature horse, Shetland pony, pony or horse at which temperatures!
Some Bucas blankets feel very light but are suitable for temperatures down to -10! This is because there is quite a difference between, for example, a 300 gram lined winter blanket which is lined with cotton and, for example, a blanket which is filled with much less grammage and special thermal lining!
Bucas has simply made it a little easier for everyone with the given temperature indications.
Guidelines
The above information and also the temperature indications are only guidelines and averages. Not every pony or horse is the same. Therefore, always keep a close eye on your pony or horse. Is it shivering? Then it is cold and you should look for an extra layer or a thicker blanket. Is it sweating or does it feel clammy under the blanket? This is a sign that the blanket is really too warm. You know your own miniature horse, Shetland pony, small pony or horse best, so look, feel, experience and go with your own feeling or ask for advice.
